rust. Brake rotors are usually made from cast iron and they'll oxidize quickly when exposed to water. As others have said, the solution is to drive the car and normal wear will scrub away the oxidation layer.Do coated rotors rust?
In turn, the premium coated rotor has a special barrier layer along its entire exterior surface, covering all venting vanes and internal passages. Although the barrier wears off on the stopping surfaces, all remaining parts of the rotor stay protected from surface corrosion. What is the difference between painted and coated rotors?
In ACDelco's case, 'coated' means a baked on coating that provides a comprehensive coating to help prevent corrosion. 'Painted' is just that – a layer of paint that will disguise protection in the short term, rapidly wear and result in the same cycle of corrosion. Why are Wilwood rotors black?

Brake calipers and rotors can get hotter than the engine. So these parts need paint that can withstand the high temperatures. Can you get black brake discs?
After machining and runout inspection BSD discs are black thermic coated against corrosion. Thermic black coating has the highest corrosion resistance and used by all car builders ( they use silver we prefer black) Sold and priced in axle sets front or rear. Are coated rotors worth it?
A key benefit of Ultracoat is that it creates a protective barrier on the rotor surface to prevent corrosion, which increases the life of your brakes and improves the appearance of your rotor. Why are EBC Brakes black?
